1. The purpose of a sanction is to change undesirable behaviour (e.g. Syria);
to limit opportunities for undesirable behaviour (e.g. Iran, extensive restrictions on technology/knowledge in the nuclear sector); and to deter other countries from choosing an undesirable course of action.
2. A separatist group is a group that practices a form of identity politics, or political activity and theorizing founded on the shared experiences of the group's members. Such groups believe attempts at integration with dominant groups compromise their identity and ability to pursue greater self-determination. These groups are related to the invasion of Ukraine because the attacks are a form of political activity as they are trying to make a stand.
3. Joining NATO and the European Union affect Ukraine because it would significantly increase Ukraine’s international military backing, allowing for NATO military action within Ukraine and alongside members of its military.This might impact Russia because this guarantee of military might would act as a firm deterrent to Russian aggression
4. Individuals, groups, and countries are showing support for Ukraine in many ways. For example, there are people outside of Ukraine allowing Ukrainian people to stay with them in their homes so they would be safe, also allowing their pets with them. For groups, many companies are disabling their work with Russia. For example, Apple, Nike, Adidas, and many more have stopped selling their products in Russia and people in Russia can no longer use any of them.
