so it becomes:

now we add the 1st equation from before and this new 1.

so adding 3x + y = -6 and -3x+9y=36 becomes:

(x cancels out): 10y = 30, y = 3. now that we have y, we subsitute y into a equation with x; lets take the first eq. so it becoems 3x + 3 = -6

which becomes 3x=-9

which becomes x=-3

so now you hvae x= -3, and y = 3.
