The other person is incorrect. The conflict of a story is the driving point of the entire plot. The conflict is often between the protagonist and the antagonist. The conflict can result in many other issues that may rise up within the story and the story will often end with a conclusion to the conflict of whether the protagonist or the antagonist succeeded against the other.
