Informative essays come in many different forms. They can define a term, compare and contrast information, or provide instruction on a process or task. Whatever their form, informative essays will not include personal opinions or viewpoints. Their main purpose is to educate the reader.

Think of an informative essay that you've read recently that stuck with you. It can be a piece from this unit or something that you read on your own. 1Serena Williams Serena Williams is known for her incredible talents on the tennis court, but it turns out there is more than meets the eye with Serena Williams. She supports multiple charities, encourages positive body image, and even partakes in building schools for young kids in Kenya. Serena Williams is an influential woman in the United States history due to her strong participation in women's roles, these include women's equality, women's empowerment, women’s body perception, and women's education. Serena Williams grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California. Serena Williams is the youngest of five daughters. Having five sisters definitely taught Serena Williams to be independent and ambitious. At age three Serena Williams picked up her first racket. Then at age four, she entered her first tennis tournament. “Her father recalls that, over the next five years, she won forty-six of the next forty-nine tournaments she entered.(“Serena Williams Biography”). Even as a young girl winning and determination was in Serena Williams blood. As she got older her accomplishments grew, including winning twenty-three grand slam titles, and best of all has won four gold medals at the United States Olympics. Such recognition gave Serena Williams a platform to speak freely about what she believes in. As headlines focused on her accomplishments on the court, Serena Williams spoke about gender, education, and equality. She has talked openly about these issues in interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Time Magazine, Vogue and many more(Crampton, Caroline). Aside from being one of the best tennis players, Serena Williams is also trying to make a difference.
