4. If turbidity is an indirect measure of growth, why can't you talk about turbidity when examining microbial growth on a plate

The growth media of bacteria on plates are usually solid, hence, turbidity does not apply.

What is Turbidity?

Turbidity is a measure of the level of cloudiness of a liquid when viewed by ordinary eyes.

When bacteria cells are inoculated in broths (liquid growth media), the level of turbidity of the broth can indicate the level of growth of the bacteria.

This is unlike semi-solid growth media in which bacteria cells are able to grow. They grow as colonies on the media instead of growing in them.
