The Constitution gave wide ranging powers to the national government and specifically to the Executive branch.

Executive branch

  • Comprises of the President and their cabinet.
  • Was nonexistent until the U.S. Constitution was ratified.

While the Constitution equally divided powers, it created the executive branch to enforce the laws that it enacted. This allowed for extensive powers to be given to it which can however be checked by the other branches.
