There are a lot of Africans who were taken as slaves. The Europeans did know how Africans became slaves.
What are the stages of the enslavement process?
- Firstly, slaves were captured from rival African states, prisoners of war, or from those who were sold into slavery.
- Slaves were forcefully taken to the coast, where a lot of them died on the way. The coast is where purchasers were allowed to look at the slaves before deciding if they will buy or not. They are often branded so as to be able to identify them.
- They are paced in holding cells in areas such as Cape Coast Castle or on the ship carrying them to Europe was filled up.
- Slaves were known be congested like rice in a sack to increase slave traders profit and chained.
- Slaves were known to be shipped to places such as Rio De Janeiro, Caribbean and English colonies etc.
How were African slaves gotten by Europeans?
Africans were known to be captured due to raids or kidnapped from their town and communities and they were matched to the port by African slave traders.
