Whilst navigating across distances, Geese use celestial cues such as the sun and the stars.

  • They also navigate by using landmarks such as coastlines, mountain ranges, rivers, tributaries, etc.
  • It is also important to note that Geese have an inbuilt biological compass that allows them to tell the difference between the north, the south the east, and the west. This compass has a way of detecting the Earth's magnetic field.

Why do Geese migrate?

When the environmental conditions become too tough for the geese such that it affects their eating patterns (such as in winter when food gets frozen and difficult to get), Geese migrate from regions of low resources to one of the high resources.
