The civil war Amendment also known as the Reconstruction Amendments are the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth amendments of the united states constitution.  

The Radical Reconstruction took place between 1865-1877.

These were amendments that took place due to the civil right acts that restricted the blacks freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and a host of others.

The Amendments

  • The amendment covered civil and legal construction on former enslaved people.
  • It abolished slavery within the united states or any place subject to their jurisdiction. It was passed by the U.S. Senate on April 8, 1864.
  • The amendment authorized the government to punish states that abridged citizens’ right to vote.
  • It prohibited states from disenfranchising voters on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. The amendment was ratified on February 3, 1870.
  • The amendments extended new constitutional protections to African Americans.
