• Let the two numbers be a and b. Thus;

a - b = 1/2   ----(1)

a² = b²   -----(2)

• For this to work, it means that the value of a must be the same value of b although they must be of opposite signs but a has to be positive.

Thus;

a = b = 1/2 ÷ 2

a = b = 1/4

• Since we established that they must be opposite signs and a must be greater, then;

a = 1/4 and b = -1/4

Thus, the two numbers are 1/4 and -1/4
