Amanda is making her friend’s wedding dress based on a pattern. She has taken her friend’s measurements and marked the fabric following the pattern, but she has not yet cut out the pieces from the fabric. Two weeks after the fitting, the friend texts to say that she has changed her mind and would like a shorter, tighter-fitting dress, but she wants Amanda to continue to use the same pattern. Describe in two or three paragraphs how Amanda would adjust to this request. Include the answers to these questions:

How would she remark the pattern?
Now that her fabric pieces are different than the pattern, how will she mark them so that she knows where they go?
What should she do if the fabric has a pattern or grain on it?
What does she need to do with the special trim along the seams?

Answer:

Measure the desired length of your dress as described earlier. Add one inch to this measurement, and then cut off any excess fabric. Use the sewing guidelines on the needle plate of your sewing machine to quickly sew a line of stitches around the skirt one inch from the bottom edge. Fold the bottom of the fabric up inside the skirt so that it touches the line of stitches. You will now have a half-inch fold inside the skirt. Press the fold, or pin it into place. Turn under the half-inch fold once more toward the inside of the dress. You will still have a half-inch fold, but now you have an enclosed edge on both the top and bottom of the fold. Once again, press or pin the double fold into place. You will want to sew along the hem on the outside of the dress. Follow the guides on your machine to sew a straight stitch a quarter inch from the folded bottom edge of the hem.
