Explain what occurred with the two experiments. What were the outcomes from each experiment and how did they differ and how were they similar to one another? Include if there were any color reactions and its significance to the experiment and how diffusion played a role in the experiments. Please provide a detailed description

The detailed description of what occurred with the two experiments

  • The dialysis bag with the starch and IKI mixture within the beaker.

  • The dialysis bag with phenolphthalein and NaOH mixture within the beaker.

A. The dialysis bag with the starch and IKI mixture within the beaker

  • The purple/black color indicates that iodine molecules have passed into the dialysis tubing and reacted with the starch inside the tubing. Since the outside solution is not purple/black, starch molecules have not passed out through the dialysis tubing.

B. The dialysis bag with phenolphthalein and NaOH mixture within the beaker

  • Phenolphthalein is pH indicator that turns red in basic solutions.

  • After closing the bag and rinsing it in distilled water; you place the dialysis bag" into a beaker filled with sodium tydroxide ( and basiclalkaline solution) You observe at the beginning of the experiment both the dialysis bag and the solution in the beaker are clear. After 30 minutes that the contents of the dialysis bag have minutes you observe turned pink but the solution in the beaker has remained clear.

Phenolphthalein is an acid-base indicator. In solutions of it is colorless; in solutions of it is deep red-purple.
