Harding was elected President of the United States in 1920. His election initiated 12 years of Republican domination of the presidency. Unfortunately for Harding, he passed away in 1923 and was succeeded by Calvin Coolidge. After Coolidge left office in 1929, Herbert Hoover assumed office and continued many of the policies of Harding and Coolidge.
