The fern goes through alternation of generations in which there is a Diploid stage and a haploid stage. In the diploid stage under the fern’s leaves there is clusters of sporangium called sorus in which meiosis occurs from the diploids sporocyte creating haploid spores. The haploid spores duplicate through mitosis to turn into a gametophyte. The gametophyte has a upper part which holds the eggs called archegonium and in the lower part where sperm is produced called antheridium. After fertilization occurs the egg duplicates and turns into a zygote and eventually back to a diploid sporophyte firn.
