Carlos believes that Cousin Ricky and Uncle David are very nice people.

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • Carlos didn't have much contact with Uncle David and Cousin Rick, just as he didn't have much contact with anyone from his maternal family.
  • They only establish this contact when a relative of theirs dies and they all meet for the wake.
  • Carlos' father feels very out of place in the presence of his wife's family as they are very energetic and different and he can't fit in.

However Carlos feels great in their presence, he thinks they are all a lot of fun, especially Uncle David and cousin Rick, who Carlos believes are the nicest and coolest.
