My family from [INSERT PLACE] had flown in to visit and I was expecting them to knock any minute. As I was waiting for them, I began to “hear” them knock and when I opened the door nobody was there. I was “detecting” a stimulus, or signal, that was not there because it would be worse to miss them than to check to see if they were there, only to find that my family had not yet arrived.
