Suppose an experiment was done to gather data on the number of unpopped kernels of microwave popcorn. Half of the students in your class took home a bag, put it in the freezer overnight, and popped it the next day. The other half took the bag, left it on their kitchen counter overnight, and popped it the next day. Each group counted the number of unpopped kernels. Could the methods from this chapter be used to compare the two means?

Respuesta :

Since the population is normal and two samples are drawn from the same population the method of difference of the sample means can be used to calculate the confidence intervals and test the hypothesis of μ frozen< μ counter.

The normal population is one which the values are distributed evenly above and below the mean.

The difference of sample means method is used to find out whether the two means are less, equal , or greater than each other.

The confidence interval is constructed to find out how much sure we are about a certain thing.

For example in the given question the we want to know that  how much the frozen kernel means is greater than the counter kernels means.

The hypothesis is the statements which we prove by applying the different tests to find out the confidence intervals.
