Just for an example, lets say you'd have to solve 35 ÷ 7.
First, the first number always goes inside the┌ (I'll call it "the house") The first number, of course, is 35 in this case.
Second, the second number goes on the outside of "the house" on the left. Of course, the 7 is the second number in this case.
Third, now that you've set up the problem, now you can solve it!
Compare the number on the outside of the house to the first digit on the inside of the house. In this case, that's 7 and 3. Since 7 doesn't go into 3, you move on to the next number that's inside the house, 5. In other words, now you're comparing 7 to 35.
7 goes into 35 5 times, so now you'd put a 5 on top of the house above the 5 in 35!
35 ÷ 7 = 5!
