What issue always came up, as American added new states out west, that began to fracture the country

Taking over other states and or countries the issue was that the United States would be overthrowing other people, for example in the Hawaiian annexation, the United States overthrown the queen to take over for its resources and to shut down who exactly could trade with Hawaii
