You should never hold a baby or child on your lap when riding in a car. This is because if you are wearing your seat belt, the forces created during a crash will cause the child to be torn from your arms. The child could then be seriously hurt or *Brainly filter*. Short answer, it is not safe to hold a child in your arms because it could put their life at risk.
