In this task, you will write an editorial from the perspective of a Loyalist or a Patriot. Your editorial will refer to one of the primary sources you reviewed in this activity. Imagine you are living in Boston in 1770. Write a brief letter to the editor of the newspaper about how the Boston Massacre affected you. Write from the point of view of either a Loyalist or a Patriot. The editorial should express concern over the seriousness of the Boston Massacre. Use the information from the primary sources you reviewed in this activity and the information you learned in this unit to help you write the editorial. Use the following questions to help you write your editorial: What was happening at that time in history? What main idea do you want to express? What is the best way for you to express your message? Who is your audience? Why are you writing the letter? What feeling, tone, or mood do you think would help you convince your audience?

At this time in history, taxes were going on and everybody was stressed out. This Boston massacre did not help out with what was going on. It was such a terrible day and we had lost some people that had lived in this civilization. What had happened was, I was just doing my laundry and folding some clothes about to head to sleep and take a nap when all of the sudden I hear some fighting out side. I assume its just some wasted men arguing about something until a rock goes through my window. I look outside and a huge street fight is going on. British soldiers show up and start shooting and they end up killing 5 men! That night was a terrible night. I am still affected by it to this day. One of the men shot ended up being one of my friends. It affected me a lot and made me terribly sad. I wanted to write this letter to tell you guys and give you guys information as to what had happened on this terrible night. This night can not be forgotten and I will never get over the feeling of just watching people go crazy right outside my front door.
