Al-Umari was an Arab historian from Syria who visited Cairo several years after Mansa Musa passed Cairo.

Al-Umari's account of Mansa Musa's pilgrimage to Mecca was not a reliable source. The reason for this is due to the fact that he gave an account based on what he heard from other people in Cairo as he wasn't a first-hand witness.

Emir Abu described Mansa Musa to Al-Umari as someone who was respectful, and get was only concerned with the pilgrimage and nothing else. Even when he was told to meet the Sultan of Cairo, he didn't answer as he said he only came for the Pilgrimage.
