One way that US constitutional republic differs from historic monarchies is that the political authority in the US constitution is given to an elected president.

The monarchy is the ruling of a kingdom by a king, queen or a prince. The monarchs are usually chosen by inheritance. When one monarch die, the next in line to the throne inherits it.

This is unlike the case of the US constitution whereby the person who gets the authority is elected by popular vote by the electorates.
