1) In Canterbury Tales, each pilgrim had their own tale to tell in the entirety of the book. However, we only looked at “The Wife of Bath” and “The Pardoner’s Tale”. Picking either of the tales, write a paragraph (5-7 sentences) explaining what point Chaucer was trying to get across about the pilgrim, or what the pilgrim represented. Make sure that you use evidence from either the general prologue, or prologue to the pilgrim’s tale to support your claims.
Think specifically about the conversations we had in class regarding this. What was the point behind the tale you chose? There’s the story, and the underlying meaning of it. Make sure to talk about that point, and how you know it!

The question above wants to assess your writing and interpretation skills. For that reason, it's not right for me to write the paragraph for you, but I'll show you how to write it.

First, you need to choose one of the tales shown in the question and interpret what kind of person the author wanted to represent with that tale. To make it easier, you can search for articles that analyze these tales and show their meaning.

An example of this is the tail “The Wife of Bath,” which shows the social role of women in the middle ages and the breaking of that role.

After doing this research, you can write your paragraph as follows:

  1. Present the tale you chose.
  2. Show the message and type of person the pilgrim in the tale represents.
  3. Show how this is associated with the discussion that was established in the classroom.
