In the first week of July, a record 1020 people went to the local swimming pool. In the second week, 125 fewer people went to the pool than in the first week. In the third week, 135 more people went to the pool than in the second week. In the fourth week, 214 fewer people went to the pool than in the third week. What is the percent decrease in the number of people who went to the pool over these four weeks? I need this answer ASAP by tonight .Please help.

Respuesta :

1020 = first week
1020 - 125 = 895 (second week)
895 + 135 = 1030 (third week)
1030 - 214 = 816 (fourth week)

816/1020 = 0.8
0.8 * 100 = 80%
^^^ Note: this is the percentage of people who went in the fourth week compared to the first week, not the percent decrease

100 - 80 = 20% decrease from the first week

Another way to solve this is to subtract the fourth week people from the first week to find the difference.

1020 - 816 = 204

Then divide that number by the total (1020) to find the percent decrease of people.

204/1020 = 0.2 * 100 = 20% decrease
