The number of turns of Calvin cycle that is needed is 90 turns

The Calvin cycle is a process used by plants cells to convert solar energy to chemical energy.

In this process, the plant converts carbondioxide with the use of solar energy into sugar.

This process occurs in 3 phases:

  • carbon fixation
  • Reduction
  • regeneration

During carbon fixation, 3 molecules of Carbondioxide is needed to generate a molecule of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate.

Also, three turns of the Calvin cycle are needed to make one glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate molecule that can exit the cycle and go towards making glucose.

Therefore 30 molecules = 3 × 30

= 90 turns.
