Plants that are pollinated by wind produce much more pollen than plants that are pollinated by animals. Why do you suppose this is so?

The wind does not deliver pollen directly to any particular plant. Pollinating animals are encouraged to visit the next flower. The wind deposits pollen everywhere at once. Wind pollinated plants therefore have a much greater area to cover, and produce more pollen.
