1. A cold can of coke is left on a table at room temperature, after about 15 minutes the can is covered in condensation. Explain what has taken place by explaining the movement of the particles.

2. How is temperature related to the transfer of kinetic energy? Explain using an example.

3 Explain how kinetic energy affects each object as it changes its state of matter:
A) Wate boiling
B) Popsicle freezing
C) Water condensing on the side of a water bottle

Respuesta :

Answer:

1. Water Condenses on an Aluminium Can. Water condenses on a can of cold soda. Water vapor in the air reaches its dew point as it cools in the air around the can, forming liquid drops of water. Condensation is the process where water vapor becomes liquid.

2. The Kelvin temperature of a substance is directly proportional to the average kinetic energy of the particles of the substance. For example, the particles in a sample of hydrogen gas at 200 K have twice the average kinetic energy as the particles in a hydrogen sample at 100 K.\

3. A water boiling

Explanation:

1) What has taken place on the outside of the coke can by the movement of the particles is called; Condensation

2) The relationship between temperature and the transfer of kinetic energy is that; temperature is directly proportional to the kinetic energy.

3a) Water Boiling; From liquid to Gas

3b) Popsicle freezing; From liquid to solid

3c)Water condensing on the side of a water bottle; From gas to Liquid.

1) Since a cold can is left on the table at room temperature, it means that it will began to get warm because room temperature is warm. This means the cold can will begin to get less cold and become warm and in this process, it gives off water vapour from the body of the can. This water vapor becomes liquid on the surface of the can in a process known as condensation.

This is because condensation is when water vapor becomes liquid.

2) Kinetic energy is the energy of a substance when its molecules are in motion. Thus, the more heat gained by a substance, the more speed will be gained by the molecules and consequently lead to an increase in kinetic energy.  Thus, temperature is directly proportional to the kinetic energy.

An example, is when we are boiling water water. The more the temperature at which the water heated is increased, the faster the molecules of the water will be and as a result the kinetic energy transferred to the water will also increase.

3a) Boiling Water; When we boil water, we are basically converting water to steam. This is because the higher the temperature, the higher will be the kinetic energy of the water molecules and at 100°C, liquid water changes state to gas which is steam.

3b) Popsicle Freezing; In contrast to boiling when the temperature is increased, in freezing the temperature is reduced and as a result there is little to no movement between the particles which means that the kinetic energy is very low and as a result the particles come together and begin to bond with each other in freezing. Popsicle is liquid ice cream and as such in freezing changes from liquid to solid.

3c) Water condensing on the side of a water bottle; From question 1 above, this process is called condensation where there is a change of state from gas(water vapour) to liquid.
