Zitkala-Sa was a Native American who went to White schools along with seven of her fellow natives. The key idea that she develops in this text is that changing people from their traditional way of life in a harsh way can breed feelings of anger and revenge.

  • In the story, “School Days of an Indian Girl,” we learn of how a native Indian girl was made to undergo several changes that were unique to her culture.

  • She wore tight clothing in the white American school she went with and this was in contrast to the free dressings of her culture.

  • She was also made to cut her long hair. Other punishments that she received in the course of her education in the white school made her plan revenge on the whites.
