Mondino de Luzzi (1270–1326) also called Raimondino Dei Liucci, or Mundinus, was an Italian physician and professor of surgery at the University of Bologna. His father owned a pharmacy, and his uncle was a medical professor at the University of Bologna.
The medieval anatomist Mondino de’ Liuzzi is known as the “Restorer of Anatomy” and considered the first to perform a dissection, document it, and publish his findings. Anathomia (Anatomy) is his fundamental text, contained the collected experiences from the ancient anatomists. It is also contained de’ Liuzzi’s first-hand account of his own experiences with dissection. His fundamental texts "Anathomia" used by Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1518) to learn about the human body for his work both as artist and scientist. Mondino was the first to reintroduce the systematic teaching of anatomy into the medical curriculum. Attached the picture of frontispiece of Mondino de’ Liuzzi’s Anathomia. Anathomia was written in 1316 and became the standard handbook for the dissecto. It have 39 editions in all.
