The war was due to the annexation of Texas as a state of the United States. The war should have not take place for some reasons:

• The United States were not the rightful owners of the place. The Mexicans owned it and only allowed US citizens to reside there.
• Also given the fact that Mexico was a poorer country and they were smaller, the US should have not declared war.
