1. define the problem
2. develop alternatives
3. evaluate the alternatives
4. make a decision
5. implement the decision
6. monitor your decision
This strategy helps because, first of all, it structures your thoughts. At no point will you be lost and not know what your next step would be. Also, it makes sure you will not skip an important step of the process.
Another advantage is that it makes you consider all the alternatives, which means that your outcome will be better informed. Afterwards you will not regret that you didn't consider some potentially better alternative.
