Substitute the value of x in equation 2. Then you'll get y=3. Then again substitute the value of y in x=1+y, you'll get x=4
y=3,x=4
You plug in 1+y for x in the other equation so it becomes 2y+1+y=10
Then, you combine the 2y and y to make 3y so its 3y+1=10
Then, move the 1 over so you get 3y=10-1 which makes 3y=9
Then, divide the 3 and you end up with y=3 

To find x 
plug y back into the ORIGINAL formula x=1+y OR 2y+x=10
assuming u used x=1+y you would get x=1+3
which gives you x=4
