What evidence points to Raven's great power and influence in the Haida mythology?
(From "Raven and the sources of light")

Respuesta :

The evidence that points to the Raven's great power and influence in the Haida mythology is its ability to mutate or transform from one creature to another.

  • Firstly, the Raven changed into a small pebble that was drunk by the Chief's daughter.

  • Secondly, this pebble in water caused the Chief's daughter to become pregnant.  The Raven was born as a human child, so much loved by the Chief.

  • Finally, after tricking the Chief by collecting the bag that contained the Sun, the human child changed back into a Raven and flew away.

  • This shows that the Raven has great power and influence as a complex creature with many unrelated qualities. Some of its qualities are "creation, transformation, knowledge, prestige as well as the complexity of nature and the subtlety of truth."

  • However, the Raven's most important characteristic is its mutative ability (transformation), which helped it to expose the light for all to enjoy.

Thus, Donna Rosenberg's "Raven and the Sources of Light" shows that the Raven has great power and influence in the Haida mythology for bringing the light out of hiding.
