crop lein system was used by cotton farmers from 1860's-1930's. sharecroppers & tenants that didnt own their properties. obtained supplies by working and earning "credit." from local Merchants. Merchants held a lein on cotton crops.
resulting in poor farmers who moved. out of the area seeking better pay..this ultimately ended in the 1940's..
