The person I admire most in the world is my Grandmother Hoomes--or as we call her, "Mimaw." My grandmother is not the most educated woman in the world since she only went to school until sixth grade. But Mimaw has worked hard her entire life on a farm, helping feed, clothe, nurture and educate her seven children. Mimaw has taught me that what's important in life is not money, but God and family (in that order).

Which sentence could you add as the next sentence of this passage that would fit the tone and style of this paragraph best?

A) I just love my grandmother so much!

B) Mimaw may not be on magazine covers, but she's the awesomest grandma ever!
C) I don't know why people don't love their grandmother as much as I love mine!
D) Mimaw also taught me all about joy and how to spend part of every day counting your blessings.

The sentence that could best fit the tone and style of the given paragraph is "Mimaw also taught me all about joy and how to spend part of every day counting your blessings."

In any given text, the tone refers to the attitude, feeling, or opinion of the author. Likewise, style is the way the author writes the text and can be understood through the words used, the pattern, and the 'voice' used.

  • In the given passage, the speaker describes his grandmother and how he admires her the most.
  • While describing the grandmother "Mimaw", the speaker reveals that she has taught her so many important life lessons.
  • And despite not being highly educated herself, Mimaw helped the speaker realize and understand that God and family are the most important things in life.
  • This reveals the author's appreciation of what her grandmother's role in her life.

To follow up on this lesson, the next sentence can be about how Mimaw taught her all about joy and how to count one's blessings every day. Thus, the correct answer is option D.
