The painting shown above was painted by a chimpanzee named Congo in a zoo. Is it art? Can an animal create art if it doesn't have the mental capacity to know that it is art and not just marks on a paper that was given to them by a human? Please defend your viewpoint on whether or not an animal can create art. What aesthetic viewpoint does the painting represent? Your response should be 5 to 6 sentences.

Answer:

yes, i think that it should be considered art.

Explanation:

Firstly, chimpanzees are very smart they have enough brain power to recognize things for what they are supposed to be used for. Not only chimpanzees but other animals to have the mind to make art. As an animal lover I think that if people put there scribbles into a museum and call it  "abstract art" anyone or anything can splash paint on a canvas and call it art. Another reasons it should be considered art is that if it dose it more than once  then clearly it knows what its doing. since the chimp was 2 when he had started painting and by the time he was 4 he had made 400 drawings he clearly knew that he was making art. In conclusion if us humans go call our scribbles that could have been made by a three year old into a museum then an animal should have the right to make art and have it be known as art.
