Answer: The Puritans and Pilgrims came to New England in the early 1600s after religious persecution in England. However, the Puritans of the colony of Massachusetts Bay did not tolerate opposing religious views. Both the Catholics, the Quakers, and the other non-Puritans were banned from the colony.
