Organisms which cause disease, such as viruses and bacteria are called PATHOGENS.

WHAT ARE PATHOGENS:

  • Pathogens refer to any organism that is capable of inducing disease in another organism called the host.

  • Pathogens can either cause diseases in plants, animals or other organisms. The types of pathogens we have are:

  • Viruses: Viruses are extremely small microscopic organisms. They cause diseases such Ebola, AIDS.

  1. Bacteria: Bacteria are organisms that cause diseases such as typhoid, cholera etc.

  • Fungi: Fungi cause diseases such as ringworm, aspergilliosis etc.
