The reason New Amsterdam maintain generally more peaceful relations with Native Americans than did the English colonies is that:

  • Dutch monarchs had little interest in permanent settlement of North America, so they sent the Company to extract only what was needed for trade, while the English Crown wanted large, long-term colonies to support mercantilist economic policies.

  • This is evident as the English Crown send multiple groups of people in England to settle in America permanently.

  • Also, the Dutch were only care about the trading of fur which they bought from the Natives but not to settle down permanently.

Hence, in this case, it is concluded that the Dutch only came to America to trade, thus they are friendly with the Natives.

However, the English settlers came to settle and explore the land, this they had many conflicts with the Natives.
