1. What organ systems must be understood in detail by the medical doctors and
bioengineers who develop amputation techniques in preparation for
prosthetics? Explain why for each system.

Respuesta :

The systems involved in this issue are the bone system, circulatory system, nervous system, muscular system, and epithelial system.

Amputation is a surgical procedure in which a limb is removed from the body of a living being. Prostheses have also been developed throughout history to replace these parts.

On the other hand, medical and bioengineers studies have delved into many aspects of the body to improve the quality of life of people who have amputations.

The following systems must be studied in-depth:

  • Circulatory system: The veins run throughout the body to oxygenate all the tissues and organs of the body. When a person undergoes an amputation, the veins must be trimmed and modified to moderate the blood flow and prevent the person from dying unpleasantly. In addition, it is necessary to guarantee the correct flow of blood to avoid that some parts remain without flow and die.

  • Osseous system: the bones are the solid support of the body, without them, they would have no shape. When a person undergoes an amputation, the bones must be cut and adapted to give skeletal support to the remaining stump to adapt a prosthesis.

  • Nervous system: Like the nervous system, the entire human body has stimulus receptor nerve endings. When a person undergoes an amputation, the nerves must be modified to avoid pain and discomfort in the patient when receiving a prosthesis.

  • Muscular system: Muscles are the main system that allows movement of the body along with the bone system. When a person suffers an amputation, their muscles must be modified to allow them the greatest possible mobility and give them shape to be able to adapt to a prosthesis.

  • Epithelial system: The skin is the outer layer of the human body. For this reason, when a person suffers an amputation, his skin must be operated on to mold a stump so that the patient does not have ailments, bumps, discomfort, or other conditions due to poor positioning of the skin.
