Debt and taxes were too high on the third estate and therefore they couldn't have a productive business. Bad weather also caused widespread crop failures at the time so there was a famine in the estates. The idea of enlightenment and the inspiration of the American Revolution led to changes in culture and the revolutionary mindset of the people. The people lacked a voice and rights in the government and therefore revolutionized against the government to gain their freedom.
