If M is the midpoint of OR, and OM = 3x + 8 and MR = 8x – 17, solve for x and find the length of OR.

If M is the midpoint it meas that MR and OM have the same length so you have this equation OM=MR so now you just have to replace:

3x+8=8x-17
8+17=8x-3x
25=5x
25/5=x
5=x

Then to find the total length you have to replace again:

OM= 3(5)+8=23
MR= 8(5)-17=23
OR=23+23=46
