The best theme for the Sound of spring is that you cant always get what you want.
In the story, the young boy hurts from the impact of catching a ball. Even though he expected sympathy from his mates, they decided not to show any.
Towards the end of the story, he was happy when he found out that his catcher was not scheduled for that game. Just as he was expressing his relief for this, he found out that the catcher was assigned to arm up pitchers.
The passage ended with him asking, have they no compassions? This easily agrees with the theme that you cant always get what you want.
