In paragraphs 28-32 of this story, we see the elderly woman Ezze pay a visit to her neighbor Bev. As she chokes on her cake, she requested water but that only reminded her of why she had paid Bev a visit in the first place. She came to inform her of the glacial runoff that had been repeatedly announced over the years.

A bond was being formed between these two neighbors during this difficult time, although Bev was oblivious to it. They would soon attempt to make their way out of the city together even though it was too late by then.
