They started conquering the territories and slaving the natives to get the land for themselves. Europeans were conquerors and fighters as well as indegenious people.
However, they had better technology and weapons. So, they won and managed to establish their will to exploit the new world to grant their Europeans countries the wealth they gathered from the new continent. Both looked for wealth when they traveled and found the America, still, their actions got countered eventually.
