There are various duties assigned to a prefect by the principal or in charge of the school. If the standard of the school are falling a principal may enforce certain disciplines and a prefect is accountable to ensure that these disciplines are followed by all the students.

There are various ways to improve learning in the school. There should be regular tests of various subjects, there can be extra curricular activities in the school, there can be some practical related to studies which can improve learning of the students.

A prefect may suggest various actions that could improve the standard of learning in a school.
