Who was Prithvi Narayan Shah?
Prithvi Narayan Shah was born in 1723. He is the ruler of the Principality of Gurkha (Gorka) in Nepal, who conquered his three kingdoms of Mala in Kathmandu, Patten and Badgaon in 1769 and integrated them to establish a modern Nepalese state. He was a member of the Shah family. He also founded the capital of Nepal in Kathmandu.
In 1742, Prithvi Narayan Shah was crowned King Gurkha. An ambitious ruler, he was able to rapidly expand his territory by conquering the controversy and divided Principality around Gurkha. However, Prithvi Naraya ṇ's first attempt to establish hegemony over the three kingdoms of Mala failed. Raja in Kathmandu was able to repel the invasion of Plitvinalaya in 1767 with the help of the East India Company.
However, two years later, Kāthmāndu was occupied after the company's troops were recalled. This allowed Prithvi Naraya to integrate his territory into the new "Kingdom of Nepal" into a unified, powerful and independent state. He then merged most of the Tarai, Kumaon, Garhwal, Shimla, Sikkim, and Tibetan Plateaus of northern India with the valleys of the Himalayas. However, by occupying Makawanpur, he led a joint army of East India Company and Nawab in Bengal, who succeeded in reclaiming the territory together. Since then, Nepal has spread from Punjab to Sikkim, almost twice as large as it is today.
