a) The poll was not conducted with a representative sample of the population because it only relied on the people present at the mall and who just so happened to run into the news company. On top of this, since the results were so close together it's likely that, since the sample was not representative, the majority could have leaned the other way if another poll was conducted at a different location or at a different time. 

b) Instead of going to the mall and asking whoever they find, they can collect a strong sample that is representative of the population as a whole. This would entail ensuring demographic percentages are relatively accurate for factors such as race or gender. Also, opening up the poll to the US as a whole rather than just one shopping mall in one state would allow for them to get a better idea for what Americans across the nation support. 

c) If the poll shows that a majority of people support a specific candidate, people who are less informed about voting issues or the platforms the candidates are running will most likely just vote for the candidate that has the most support. This is because they would follow the logic of 'if more people support them then they must be better even if they do not actually support their stances on specific issues.
