Digest is the compilation of the legal works of the Roman made in the year 530 AD by order of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I.

The first Digest is known as Digesta sive Pandecta iuris, and it is considered as the most important legal collection in the world.

The historical objective of this compilation was oriented to the restoration of the old Roman Empire, allowing to rescue its legal tradition and imposing a uniform set of laws on all the territory of its empire.
